Meet two-time Grey Cup champion, Nic Demski. In addition to being a Winnipeg Blue Bomber, Nic is a committed advocate and coach for young athletes and a strong community leader who inspires athletes of all ages to get active. He believes that the power of sports brings communities together, particularly in the winter months.
Nic may have gotten his professional start with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, but Winnipeg has always been home. We asked Nic a few questions about his presentation and what he loves about the winter. Here’s what he had to say:
What do you love about living in a Winter City?
I love all of the outdoor activities that the winter allows for. My fiancée and I take our beautiful dog walking along trails both inside the city and out. After a fresh snowfall, the scenery is just beautiful—and let’s not forget the hockey!
Who should attend your session? What should they look forward to learning about?
Anyone can come to my session and get something out of it. Young kids will learn a bit about how to stay active throughout the cold winter months, and adults will hear about—and maybe even relate to—what growing up in this wonderful city means to me. Sports are a big part of my life, so that is what most of my session will be about.
Finally, do you have any favourite memories of Manitoba in the winter?
I have a boatload of memories about Winnipeg winters. Some of my fondest come from the times when my friends and I would head down to an outdoor ice-skating rink around Christmas. We would spend all day playing hockey and other ice games. It’s these kinds of small memories that last a lifetime!
